Holy moly! Video creators are jumping for joy as Adobe announces support for ProRes RAW and many other features in the latest Premiere Pro update. In addition to updates in Premiere Pro, Adobe also announced new features and updates for After Effects, Audition, Premiere Rush and Character Animator.
Performance Boost
Of course the update in Premiere Pro comes with a boost in performance as Adobe continues to work with GPU acceleration and boost the encoding happening on Windows for H264/HEVC. More speed updates for the new auto reframe effect, too. Now that I think about it, I need to get that tutorial done for yall. Popular content creator, Gerald Undone, featured a great demo and explanation of this performance boost.
ProRes RAW support
ProRes RAW support makes videographers jump for joy as there's more flexibility in creating beautiful content when it comes to color grading and the amount of data that can be output for viewers. If you’ve ever worked with the Blackmagic Design plugin and Blackmagic RAW footage, you’ll know that extra data is such a joy to work with. ProRes is what makes all of the big studios happy.
So now anyone with the ability to create in this format can utilize Premiere Pro’s power and tools to really ramp up their video’s creative flare. The update is also available on After Effects and Premiere Rush. Get the download on your Windows computer for ProRes via the Apple website.
After Effects Updates
I love After Effects, but it’s true that some visual effects could be done a little easier. Adobe continues to update the effects panel to make things more intuitive as well as add more features. I like this new on-screen handwriting tool that will allow more dynamic control of the script's shape. Like manipulating the thickness of the script in certain areas. It uses a new version of the Bezier pen tool. A tool which is absolutely awesome for masking and scripting (once you master how to use it).
Keyframes in some projects can be a bit overwhelming when you have so many in the clip. Now both After Effects and Premiere Pro will offer a filtering option in the effects control panel to show what actual items and parameters were updated with keyframes. No more guess work staring at keyframe dots.
Audition Updates
Automatic audio device switching. Oh man this is so great to see. I HATE that popup when I’d accidentally pulled out my mic, Audition would force me to go into preferences to update my input. Now it will automatically default to the OS default input in case something changes. This is available in Premiere and After Effects, too.
And much more
Other updates include some performance boosts and tools to Character animator. More can be found on the Adobe blog. Check out all the other updates there.
