Vegas Pro 20 Launched

Vegas Pro is a great alternative to the likes of Apple Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro and Davinci Resolve. I’ve mentioned it a few times on my show because it offers quite a few tools aimed at making video editing a much simpler task for consumers and prosumers. Today Vegas Pro 20 has launched.

Big THANK YOU For Helping Rancho Cotate High School Track Team

Recently I was having a nice day, but then later had a dark cloud of anger dump on it. Coach John Anderson aka “Coach Andy” shared that one of the facilities at the Rancho Cotate High School track was broken into. This lead to a bunch of gear being stolen. Smh. Cameras be damn, the thieves went in and got what they wanted regardless. . . .

I reached out to Coach Andy to see if he was going to start a fundraiser to get the gear replaced because quite honestly, most of the gear was purchased out of his own pocket, not from school funding. Coach wasn’t sure how to set up a fundraiser so I opened a GoFundMe to help him out. I set the goal to $1000 and mentioned it on my Twitter page, then said I’d mention on one of my shows in a few days because it gets a gazillion downloads each week.

Well, the community and my online community really came through on this. Heck, the goal was met before I could even mention it on the show. Lol! I am so grateful.

I did eventually mention the fundraiser on the show and I’ve decided to keep the donations open until August 8, 2022. Then, I’ll withdraw the funds and get them over to Coach Andy. Again, THANK YOU all for the support and thanks for spreading the word even though the fund’s goal is met. Excess is always helpful. Especially to cover incidentals like added travel expenses the team incurs. Heck, #hardhead lead the way last season having to travel to the championships with a few other teammates that qualified. Anyway, thanks again, everyone. Send people to “antpruitt dot com slash help” or just click here.

I Was On Our News Show Last Week

From time to time I get the opportunity to be on our news show Tech News Weekly. I’ll be the first to mention that I’m not much of a “news guy,” but I do enjoy filling in for my co-host when they’re out of the office. Check out our discussions below. Don’t worry, no one will ever confuse me as a top-notch news anchor. Thanks for watching.

a GREAT Autofocus Explanation With Rudy Winston of Canon and Steve Brazill

So my man Steve Brazill is not only an amazing photographer but also a great podcast host. He hosts a show called Behind The Shot which features great images and the photographers explaining the thought process of the image captured. This particular episode is a bit different. Brazill is joined by Canon’s Technical Advisor Mr. Rudy Winston and he does a ridiculously THOROUGH explanation of the way Canon’s autofocus system works in its new mirrorless cameras. But don’t worry, this explanation is applicable to most cameras today. Not just the Canon system. Definitely worth a watch. Check it out below.

Hanging Out With the Makers on "Because We Make" Podcast

I’ve known Vinny and Ethan for several years now. It’s quite an honor to call them friends. They’ve been so supportive of me and my career going from an IT support guy to a content creator. This week, I had the opportunity to be a guest on their show to talk about my work, life and just general fun conversation. I appreciate them having me on. Subscribe to their show, Because We Make, on whatever podcast app you use. Listen to this week’s episode featuring me down below.

Blackmagic Design Creates Free Tutorials for DaVinci Resolve

I’ve been attempting to get more serious with my workflow in DaVinci Resolve. So much that I’ve even purchased a training course in addition to watching many video tutorials online and doing my own trial and error. Fortunately, the team at Blackmagic Design have stepped up to create its very own set of tutorials. THANK YOU, team.

Image: Blackmagic Design

I started checking out the tutorials and they’re quite nice. DaVinci Resolve is such a robust app with so many different tools, I expected the tutorial playlist to be several hours long. (It’s roughly three hours.) Blackmagic Design has done a great job breaking down the subject matter to make it easier to digest all the information. Check out the tutorial playlist here via YouTube or just click on the image above.

I’m going to create my own Resolve tutorials as some point for my show, but I’m not ready for that just yet. I do ok in the app with some of the content I’ve created recently, but I don’t feel I’m ready to “teach” about the app. I know many of you have asked about me doing tutorials. I promise. I’ll create some quick hitters soon. Having a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera* in my kit has been great and working with the RAW footage in Resolve is a dream experience. In the meantime, make sure you’re subscribed to my YouTube channel and my podcast at TWiT for more updates.

The Harder They Fall, Dune and Fancy Beers

I had a fun time hanging with my friends back in Atlanta that do a great job of creating informative, yet entertaining content for the masses. The podcast is called Tha Blessin’ Gone Audio and no it’s not a religious show. Trust me on that. Ha! But yeah, it’s a fun topical show. I’ve been on before but was recently asked to hangout with them for the holiday week. This week we get into the popular cowboy flick on Netflix, The Harder They Fall, Dune, other movies and topical things of today. Give it a listen below and subscribe to them on Apple Podcasts are wherever you enjoy your podcasts. It’s worth it. Thanks, yall.

Yes I'm Judging You: International Mobile Film Festival 2022

I have the honor and pleasure to be a part of the panel of judges for the 2022 International Mobile Film Festival. The wonderful Miss Susy Botello and team reached out to see if I’d be interested. Of COURSE I was interested. The world of content creation continues to fascinate me and when you look at it from a mobile device perspective, it’s pretty dadgum amazing.

I got to know Miss Susy a few years ago as I saw her on Twitter preaching the gospel of Filmic Pro. I love that app for getting the most out of your smartphone video camera. She’s being running this film festival for quite a while now (2009, I believe) and it’s great to see its growth in popularity from creators around the globe. Really great seeing the passion to help push folks into creating more stories with their mobile devices.

The event takes place in San Diego April 29th - May 1st 2022. For more information, head on over to the site and feel free to submit your mobile cinematic masterpiece.

Thank You, Lensrentals

It’s been a pretty challenging year for me, and quite frankly, I’ve enjoyed it. Yeah I wish some things were easier for me professionally, but at the same time, I do enjoy the challenges. I enjoy the small and large victories when they come, too. Recently, I’ve been fortunate enough to be offered an affiliate deal with someone I’ve dealt with regularly over the years - Lensrentals.com*

I’ve been using Lensrentals to help me with projects and gigs directly or indirectly for years now. Whenever I want just play with a camera, I rent one from Lensrentals. Whenever a client needed a particular piece of kit that I don’t have for the job, I have them rent it from Lensrentals (or rent it myself). Whenever someone asks me about buy a new camera, I tell them to rent what they’re thinking about before buying it via. . .Lensrentals.

This year I’ve been fortunate to partner with Lensrentals to help me out with my show, Hands-On Photography and other segments I’ve created at TWiT. More recently, they set me up with a lens to demo for wildlife photography. It was a fun demo and a great piece of kit to show off best practices and tips for shooting wildlife photography.

I want to thank Lensrentals for having me and say thank you to all of you that will use my affiliate link to check out photography gear rentals. It’s easy, just click here* or go to antpruitt dot com slash lensrentals to get to my affiliate store front. Back to the Studio

So this past week we officially started going back to the TWiT studio. Granted, now we have to be cautious yet again because of certain counties in California are shutting down yet again. Anyway, yeah, we went back to the studio to start recording from there again instead of our homes.

This was nice to see the staff in person again. I’ve been seeing the engineers in person for several months now as I’ve been technical director for two shows, so going “back to the studio” wasn’t much of a thing for me. But seeing the other staff was nice. Anyway, I had to pleasure of doing the tech news show that week. I even wore a tie for the occasion. Picture below is non-related, but click on it go check out the show.
