Yesterday I shared my site's Featured Artist that happened to be my uncle. His name is Mac Arnold. For those of you that don't know, my uncle is a fairly popular blues artist. As I shared this, I got a lot of positive feedback about Uncle Mac on my Google+ feed. It was nice to see.
I said on the post that I'd shared a little more about him. The picture you see of him playing his "guitar" is a peculiar one. Why? Because his guitar is an old oil can. Yeah there's a story behind it.
Uncle Mac is the brother of my grandfather. The two of them grew up back in the 1940's. As some of you know, that time in history was an interesting time for blacks in the south. It was all about farming, surviving and making do with what you have. They were not a rich family by any means but knew how to support the family and shared a lot of love.
The pic below is my grandfather. I love this old man. He knows it.
I'm his first grandson and I'm proud of him as he is me. This man has worked at the same job for as long as I've been alive. And I'm in my thirties! This man has lived in the same house for as long as I've been alive. He's been married to the same woman for as long as I've been alive. There are certain values I try to take from my parents and him. He's consistent. He's wise. And he's even an occasional smart ass. The love that I have for music outside of the realm of hip-hop comes from the influences of him and my parents.
Check out the audio clip below from Uncle Mac's website that explains how my grandfather got into music which in turn lead to Uncle Mac getting into his flourishing career.
Thanks for checkin' out my content. Thanks for sharing this post. Check out Uncle Mac's album right here from my library.
