The Flashpoint Strobe for The Bigger Jobs: Xplor Power 1200 Pro

I previously reviewed a portable studio strobe option that I absolutely loved. It was the Flashpoint Xplor 300 Pro. It’s a small, portable studio flash that can be used pretty much anywhere for your photography. Be sure to watch/read my review.

Now, there’s a new bigger sibling to the 300 Pro. It’s the Xplor Power 1200 Pro R2 found at Adorama. I’ve not gotten my hands on this one, but holy moly is this a beast of a lighting kit. Let me get the tech specs out of the way.

Tech Specs

Quite frankly you get a lot of similar specs with the 1200 Pro as you would with the 300 Pro. Small form factor, fast recycle time between shots, high speed sync (HSS), TTL, 2.4GHz wireless trigger capability and Bowen’s S-Type mount compatibility. Cool, right? But, you’re getting a lot more power. Here you’re getting 1200W of power versus the 300W. That power has to be. . .POWERED, so while there’s a much larger battery at 36V/5200mAh. Granted, it’s a corded power supply, but the power pack is portable and offers swappable batteries for more backup power. Much better than trying to stay connected to a wall outlet.

Who is this for?

It’s a good looking lighting option, but one has to realize that this light may not be for everyone. This isn’t for the weekend warrior of photography. The price point for this package is $1599. Yes, I know some are going to immediately close their browser right now, but the photographer that’s really looking to step up their game with more power for their shoots are going to invest in a package like this for their business. Fair pricing for what looks like a strong piece of kit.
