Light It UP: New Flashpoint Monolight XPLOR 300 Pro Announced

On this fifth day of May, the team at Flashpoint sent me a memo regarding its latest product for photographers. It’s the company’s new monolight, the XPLOR 300 Pro TTL. If you’re a photographer, you start out shooting on a camera that has a mediocre at best flash built into your camera. Eventually, you move into a speedlight flash that you can attach to your camera or to a light stand. Then you step up into the world of monolights or strobes. Or, if you’re like me, you utilize all of these types one way or another in your photography projects. The monolight is a go-to option found on most studio sets because of the power and portability. . .well, when they’re battery powered at least. The XPLOR 300 Pro is battery powered and claims to bring great performance.

Features and Specs

As previously mentioned, portability and power is the key with monolights. The XPLOR 300 Pro is coming in at 7.5” x 3.8” x 3.4” and three pounds of girth with the 2600mAh battery included. Good for run-and-gun shooting or photojournalism. The modeling light that’s built-in is bi-color LED that’s offering 12W of continuous lighting. Of course it has a Bowens S-Mount capability (via an adapter) so you can put a nice softbox or other modifiers onto it. And lastly, the cross-major-brand wireless capability. It’s using Flashpoint’s 2.4GHz radio system with over 32 channels, 1/8000 HSS (high speed sync) and I believe it’s also compatible with the Godox X-system trigger. I could be wrong, but I feel like I remember these two companies sharing firmware. Hopefully I can get my hands on one to test and try it with my triggers.
